MALPRACTICE at KELOWNA GENERAL HOSPITAL – (PART 2 – More to Follow)

After seeing and observing the lack of PROFESSIONAL CARE that my wife received at the Kelowna General Hospital, I sent an Email to the Patient Quality Care for Interior Health as per Interior Health’s Web Site. They say they respond within 48 hours but I received ZERO response.  This was sent a few days before my wife was released to come home.   After waiting to hear from them, for a couple of weeks and Nothing, I wrote the following letter to the CEO of Interior Health.  This letter was sent Registered Mail and was signed for.

RE:  Serious Communication Issues within KGH.

Dear Ms. Brown:

I am writing to you in regards of the care my wife received while in Kelowna General Hospital for Hip Replacement Surgery.   An operation that usually requires a 4 to 5 day stay at most, turned into an 82-day nightmare.

First and foremost, I want to complement the Surgeons who did an outstanding Job.  Secondly, the majority of the Nursing Staff, (RN’s LPNs and Care workers) were outstanding.  That being said, there were serious issues with some employees, both on the Nursing side and especially in the PHYSIO Department.

I spent over 75 days at KGH to ensure my wife would survive the treatment she was receiving.  If I had not been there every day after her first surgery, she would now be in a wheelchair, or worse yet.

With all this being said, I am requesting a personal meeting with you to go over the information I have gathered.  Before I even entertain seeing a lawyer, I wanted to meet with you, not middle management.  You may have as many people attend that you feel necessary.   I would prefer you handling this versus Lawyers.  My twin sister is a Retired OR RN, with over 30 years of experience, so I do have some knowledge in what a nurse’s duties are. I wanted to give you a heads up and a chance to reply versus seeking legal help.  If we cannot meet, I will be involving the press and potentially legal action.

I sent a brief email requesting a personal meeting on August 23, 2021 and as of yet have received nothing.  I know these times are very taxing and trying on all health professionals today.

I look forward to a speedy reply and would like to hear from you prior to October 7, 2021.

Sincerely,

I received ZERO response from this letter, not even an acknowledgment.  Weird, as I was good enough to meet with the President of the US.  On September 28, 2021, I received an EMAIL requesting to fill out a complaint Form for the Patient Care Quality Explaining their procedure.  I did not answer this email as it was over a month since I contacted them.   On October 1, 2021, I received a call from a Hospital Employee wanting me to come in for a meeting today or tomorrow.  I informed her those dates were a conflict for me.  We agreed to meet on October 7, 2021 at 1:00PM.  At this meeting there were 3 Directors and myself.  Two Directors from Kelowna General Hospital and a Director from the Patient Care Quality Department.

I presented my report to them over the hour and a half that we met.  I informed them that I thought my wife deserved some compensation for what she had experienced.  They told me they would have to talk to Risk Management, which I informed them I fully understood.  I gave them 15 days to respond.  After 16 days, NOTHING, so I sent an EMAIL to all three Directors to find out what was happening.  On the 18th day, one of the Directors called, and informed me, that Risk Management was the wrong Department.  I was furious, as the Risk Management Department was a mile down the street from the hospital, and it took this long?  They could have made a phone call, after our meeting, and found out that same day.    To add insult to injury, days later, this same Director sent me a letter thanking me for the meeting and suggesting I Email RISK MANAGMENT.  I later sent a letter to Risk Management and received ZERO response.  This now shows us we are just being brushed off.  After this, we decided to contact a Lawyer.  We actually contacted 4 legal firms.  In Canada, it is almost Impossible to sue for Medical Malpractice once you are a Retired person on a fixed Income.  It is now September 2023, and my wife is still battling Infection from this.    This is just the beginning.   (More to Follow.  Part 3 is Coming!)
